Life in the Gym with Chris

This month the Peak Spotlight shines on Chris Spotts!

Chris has been a loyal member for just over a year and is completely dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle for himself and leading his family down the same path. He has lost over 100 lbs in the past year, his lovely wife started running and just completed a marathon and they have 2 amazing kids!

Lets get to know Chris even better….

Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself, your family and your life….

I like long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners … oh wait…not that kind of profile…

Well, my name is Chris Spotts and I work as a database administrator for a logistics company – that’s fancy talk for I work with computers and trains.  It’s not as glamourous as it sounds… if that sounds glamorous to you.  (If it does, come see me about a job!) I have a beautiful wife, Lydia, married ten years, almost eleven.  I have two kids, Kathleen, eight, and Daniel, four.  You’ve probably seen them up at the gym:, glued to the TV or giving you their short, but thrilling life story.  They’re mostly friendly – just don’t feed them after midnight.

What brought you to Peak?

I needed a change. I’d always been overweight and out of shape – unless round counts – nearly my whole life.  I needed to get healthy and be able to stand up from a chair without feeling like I deserve an Olympic medal for standing up.

How long have you been a member at PSF?

Just about to hit my year mark in the middle of April.

What is something we might not know about you?

I’m MacGyver – minus the awesome hair.  I hate replacing things that break.  I will make an attempt to fix almost anything or solve almost any issue, even if I have no clue what I’m doing or how to do it. I will learn.

What is your favorite song to workout to?

I like anything with a lot of energy – Fallout Boy, Toby Mac, and Walk the Moon has been my playlist lately.  Can’t possibly pick one song!

If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

Definitely a dog.  I’d be one of those big dog that steals food when nobody is looking though and hops up in your lab at 70lbs like he’s a 10 lb chihuahua.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

The ability to learn anything instantly.  Either that, or the ability to genuinely forget stuff I don’t want to do. “No…honey, I don’t remember that you asked me to do the dishes!”

What hobbies do you have?

My hobby seems to be collecting hobbies.  I tend to get super focused on one, do it for awhile, get good, and move on.  So… photography, videography, woodworking, robotics, astronomy, cooking, baking, and underwater basket weaving. I may be lying about one of those.

What is it that keeps you coming back?

Without a doubt, the amazing people.  None of the progress I’ve made would be possible without the awesome people that workout with me and push me way beyond where I thought I could go.

What does the Peak Community mean to you?

It’s a second family.  It’s one of the only groups I’ve ever felt like I fit in with.

What is one of your big goals for 2017?  How are you going to accomplish that?

One pushup. That’s all I ask. One stinking real pushup.  It’s the only movement I still feel embarrassed about.  I put in extra upper body time after the normal class and especially extra bench press days.  Still losing weight.  It’ll happen, but progress takes time.
